Lifeboat week 2019 is done, thank you to all that attended, supported, sponsored or volunteered at our events.

Lifeboat week 2019 came to a close yesterday with our final event, the lifeboat service led by our Chaplain Tony Higgins.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to one of our events, we hope that you enjoyed the week as much as we did. The weather was a bit tricky at times and we were sad to cancel the live music on Friday night but it was the right decision in the end. A big thank you to all our volunteer crew & fundraisers for all their hard work and late nights. A big thank you to their families too who won't have seen much of them over the last few days.

Lifeboat week 2020 looks like it will be 7-16 August but we'll confirm that in a few weeks.

Ratrace ska band will now be playing for us tomorrow (Saturday) from 2pm to 4pm in Prince Albert Gdns by the pier

We were looking forward to seeing Ratrace play on Friday 16th August but we had to cancel due to the awful weather forecast. They have very kindly offered to play from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 17th August instead though.

Our bar and BBQ will be open so come along and enjoy Dorset's premier 9 piece ska band.

Street collection day in Swanage town centre today - 9am to 1pm

Our fundraising volunteers will be out in Swanage town centre with their collection boxes this morning. Please spare a thought for them out in the blustery weather and put some change in their boxes. Thank you.

Live music, bar & BBQ event - Friday 16th August - CANCELLED due to strong wind forecast. All other events unaffected.

We've taken the difficult decision to cancel our live music, bar and BBQ event at Prince Albert Gardens on Friday 16th August. It's not a decision we wanted to take but the safety of our volunteers and the public has to come first. The wind's forecast are above the limit recommended by our marquee manufacturer and that combined with the rain that is forecast mean that we've had to cancel.

The good news is that the weather at the weekend looks breezy but dry so all other events are unaffected.

Thank you for your understanding.

Outdoor cinema tonight - Bohemian Rhapsody in the gardens by the pier. Gates open at 7.30pm for picnics, film starts at 8.45pm.

Open air cinema is back for 2019 showing “Bohemian Rhapsody” on Tuesday 13th August – Gates open at Prince Albert Gardens (by the pier) from 7.30pm for picnics with the film starting at 8.45pm. Please bring something warm and your own seating.

We received great feedback following our first ever outdoor cinema evening last year showing “The Greatest Showman”, so we are delighted be running the event again. However, this event is a large investment for us because we must hire the film equipment, barriers, toilets and pay for the film rights. Last year we only just managed to cover these costs, but what we would really like to do is cover these costs and raise some money for the Swanage Lifeboat Station.

In attempt to keep this event going we are running the event slightly differently this year by asking people to make donations if you attend, rather than buying fixed price tickets. We hope this will make the event affordable to all, and this will also change how the film rights fee is calculated, setting a fixed charge at the time of booking, rather than a variable charge linked to ticket sales.

We are suggesting a donation of £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s. There will also be a selection of popcorn, sweets and drinks for you to buy on your way in to help us to raise funds to cover the evening’s costs and keep the lifeboats running at Swanage. We’d love to keep this event in our calendar for years to come, but we can only do that with your support, so please come along!

Open air theatre tonight - Shakespeare's 'As You Like It' 7pm at PAG. Gates open at 5:45pm for picnics

Known as Shakespeare's perfect pastoral play.

For Summer 2019, Rain or Shine are delighted to present...

AS YOU LIKE IT
"All the world's a stage..."

Join one of Shakespeare's most famous heroines, Rosalind, as she makes her way in a world full of power, jealousy and tyranny.

In fear for her life and in search of true love,  she flees her heritage with her cousin Celia and fool
Touchstone. Will disguising herself as a country lad lead her to a new life full of hope, laughter, and her banished mother?

With songs galore, hand-to-hand wrestling, idiotic shepherds and the infamous melancholic Jaques,
this comedy is ideal for all the family.

So pack your picnic, rugs and chairs, pop open some bubbly and sit back and relax in the summer sunshine, while we whisk you off to the Forest of Arden where anything can happen!

Please bring something warm and your own seating.

There will be a bar, tea, coffee & hot chocolate too.

Day 1 = done. Thanks to those who took part in the golf competition. We're glad we postponed the outdoor cinema!

A big thank you to all who braved the elements today and took part in our golf competition. The above photo shows our Chairman, Peter Foster (right) and crew member Darren Tomes (left) giving out the prizes. Peter organizes this event each year and it's always popular and raises a good sum of money.

As you've all hopefully found out by now we took the decision to postpone the outdoor cinema event until Tues 13th Aug. We're glad we did given the weather this evening.

Tomorrow, Saturday, our fundraisers will be out in Swanage selling RNLI racing ducks for the duck race on Sunday. You'll find them by the Post Office and on the seafront. Could your business or employer sponsor a barrel of beer for our lifeboat week bar?

With the start of Lifeboat Week 2019 approaching fast we're still looking for a few more generous local businesses to sponsor a barrel of beer for our bar. By sponsoring a barrel it means that even more of the money we raise can go towards running the lifeboats here at Swanage. In return we'll give you an A3 poster behind our bar and a receipt to keep your accountant happy!
If you'd like to contribute then please phone the lifeboat station on 01929 423237.

Thank you!

Outdoor cinema "Bohemian Rhapsody" change of date to Tues 13th Aug due to strong winds

We've been in touch with the firm who provide our outdoor cinema and unfortunately due to the high winds forecast for Friday they have asked us to reschedule. Their screen can't operate in winds over 25mph and what's forecast for Friday evening is greater than that. So we've decided to move the event to Tuesday 13th August. The start time stays the same at 8:45pm.
Entry is by a suggested donation of £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s on the door. Doors open from 7.30pm. There will also be a selection of popcorn, sweets and drinks (both alcoholic and soft) for you to buy on your way in to help us to raise funds to cover the evening’s costs and keep the lifeboats running at Swanage. We’d love to keep this event in our calendar for years to come, but we can only do that with your support, so please come along!

Could you build a boat in 4 hours?

Our build-a-boat challenge is a great event, whether its a family, a group of friends or colleagues that get together you can rest assured that you'll have a great day and raise some money for the RNLI too.
The idea is that you start at 12:00 with the following:
  1. 1 x sheet of 6mm x 1200mm x 2400 plywood
  2. 2 x 25mm x 50mm x 2400mm prepared timber
  3. 1 x broom handle (to be used for paddle)
  4. 1 x tube of quick drying polyurethane glue (requires skeleton gun)
  5. 30 x 25mm nails
  6. 30 x 20mm screws
  7. 1 x roll of grey cloth tape
These are the ONLY materials you can use and our judges will be very strict on this. You then have 4 hours to build yourself a boat that you can race from the Stone Quay around a buoy and back. The first boat home wins the £50 cash first prize.
An entry form can be downloaded from [ HERE ]. We're very grateful to Jewson who supply all the materials and sponsor this event.
