Lifeboat Week 2011 = done!

Wow, what a week! We'd like to say a massive thank you to all the people who helped at or attended one of our events. We've got loads of pictures to go through but we'll make sure that we get them online as soon as we can.

In the mean time . . . make a note in your diary. Lifeboat Week 2012 = 10-19 August. If you're a golfer we've got a new event for you on the first day, more details to follow.

Saturday, 20 August 2011

Lifeboat Saturday - 20 Aug

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Prince Albert Gardens last night, what a great night!

We've got another busy day ahead of us. We've got stalls, Bar & BBQ at Prince Albert Gardens all day, the build-a-boat competition, the raft race, more live music this time from 'The Stage Crew' and 'The Reptiles' and fireworks at 2145!

Thursday, 18 August 2011

Flag Day - Fri 19 Aug

Friday is our annual flag day. If you see one of our volunteer collectors please cross the road and put some change in their box.

If you're really lucky you might even stumble across 'Stormy Stan', we're reliably informed that he's having a long weekend in Swanage to help with the fundraising.

Don't forget that you can download an events list here. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of the events.

Live Music, Bar & BBQ - Fri 19 Aug

On Friday evening Prince Albert Gardens in Swanage is going to be the place to be. Cliff Lift & the ZigZags begin the entertainment with a lively set from 6pm. We've not had them play for us before, but they are a local band from the Bournemouth area and have an excellent reputation as a live band.

As ever there will be a fabulous bar with local beers and ciders, the BBQ will be fired up and providing delicious food once more.

The Wiseleys will be playing once more from 8.30pm, back for their third stint at lifeboat week. This incredible London based band will set out to once more blow your socks off with their energetic sound.

Entry is free and the Bar and BBQ will be open from 6pm to 11pm.

Do yourself a favour...don't miss this evening!

Lighthouse Loop - 5k fun run

The second ‘Lighthouse Loop’ 5k fun run will be held on the 21st August on the final day of Lifeboat Week 2011.

Strictly a fun run, the course will take entrants up the downs with views across Durlston Bay to the Isle of Wight before entering the spectacular Durlston Country Park and following the cliff line to the Castle, currently undergoing major renovation work.

From here the course follows well defined trails to Tilly Whim (with the chance of spotting a few dolphins if you’re lucky) before heading to the top of the ridge ready for the downhill return journey.

Open to anyone, just turn up at Prince Albert Gardens from 8 o’clock to register for £5.  The race will start at 9 o’clock and a prize giving for juniors, adults and veterans will be held shortly after the last runner completes the circuit.

Teas, coffees and bacon butties will be available throughout the event, what a great way to start the day!

Sponsor a barrel

With Lifeboat Week 2011 approaching fast we'd like to say a big thank you to the people that have sponsored us so far this year.

Jewson Ltd - have sponsored the build-a-boat competition again this year
MKL Accountants - have sponsored the raft race again this year
Purbeck Sports - have sponsored the 5k lighthouse run

We'd also like to know if there are any local businesses that would like to sponsor a barrel of beer for our lifeboat week bar? The cost is £100 and for that you get an A3 poster on the big sponsors board behind the bar for all our customers to see. If you'd like 4 posters to make a big square then please do!

We're very grateful to the 10 local businesses that sponsored us last year. Bloom Florists, Chococo, Fortes, Gee Whites, MG Furnishing, Ocean Bay restaurant, Oliver Miles estate agents, Swanage Sea Fishing, The Fish Plaice and WPM Lettings.

We'd really like to fill our board again this year, if you're a local business and you'd like to help then please get in touch on 01929 423237. We look forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing you at the bar!

The evenings start at 7pm and usually finish around 9pm when we'll serve up some cheese and wine. Tickets are £10 and are limited to 24 people per evening. The evenings are aimed at adults and older children as some of the questions can get a bit technical at times! If you'd like to come along give the Boathouse a call on 01929 423237.

Much Ado About Nothing

This year's open air theatre event at Prince Albert Gardens (PAG) is taking place on Sunday August 14th 7:30pm.

Hero loves Claudio, and he loves her.....but will it all end happily? Beatrice loathes Benedick, and he loathes her......or do they? Don John hates everyone and plots much mischief. Don Pedro and Leonato desire joy for all.

Who will succeed in their plans and who will fail?

Tickets £11 Adults / £5 Children in advance.  £13 Adults / £6 Children on the door.

Tickets on sale at The Lifeboat Shop, Swanage Tourist Information Centre (01929 422885), Corbens Estate Agents, also via Ticketweb www.ticketweb.co.uk

Exciting news!

So last night we had a big planning meeting for Lifeboat week and I can announce today that plans are coming along very quickly. I’m getting the sense that this year is going to be bigger and even better than previous years (let’s hope for less rain than last year!) so put the dates in your diary NOW (Friday 19th & Saturday 20th August)

My main responsibility is booking bands and I’m really excited with how this is coming together. Back once again to headline the Friday evening are the Wiseleys from London town. This awesome group played for us 2 years ago and enjoyed it so much they came back to play at our Christmas party! Once again on the Saturday evening we have our great friends The Reptiles. I’ve lost track of how many times they headlined Saturday night for us but they’re awesome, we love them, you love them…what more needs to be said?!

Watch this space for more announcements…
